iPhone card counting application causes casinos to ban iPhones

Gaming authorities in Nevada have raised the alarm to casinos over a new card-counting application for the iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G. Blackjack Card Counter, an iPhone application which sells for $1.99 on the App Store, can assist pokeroddsiphone_fullgamblers in counting cards, hence the memorandum sent out to casinos. Card counting is illegal in Nevada when assisted by any device, however it's not illegal when not using a device.

Card counting, made famous by the MIT students, is a tecnique which attempts to determine how many high-value cards are left in the deck by placing values on each of the cards. The iPhone application has a "stealth" mode in which the screen is switched off, but the user can continue to press the screen in order to count the cards. There is another competitor to the app, subtly called "Card Counter", selling for "2.99
