Mobile gaming on the rise
Downloads of mobile games grew at a staggering 17% during 2008 largely to to increased mobile computing power led by the Apple iPhone. According to a report, 8.5 million people downloaded a mobile game to their mobile or
cellphone. While this is only 3.8% of mobile subscribers, many of the 8.5 million are iPhone users. What's great about this is that both generations of the iPhone (the 2G and 3G version) running the 2.0 and above (latest at the time of writing is 2.21) can utilise the power of the iPhone.
With its touch screen, robust processor, ease of obtaining games and 3-D graphics capabilities, it's little wonder that the iPhone 3G has been a hit with gamers. THe Apple iPhone owners made up 14% of mobile game downloads. Overall, 32.4% of iPhone users have downloaded a game, compared with a market average of 3.8%, which clearly demonstrates the iPhone is one of the leaders in the field of mobile gaming.
